By Eric Swenson

Art, STORIES, SOUP

Uma's creative practice is rooted in an animist sensibility she has carried since childhood and decades of sculpting the sacred image of Kali so that others could meet Her face to face. Whether the vessel is a statue, a doll, a story or a pot of soup, the work is the same — making a form that spirit can inhabit and a community can gather around.

SOUP COMMIE GATHERINGS

Immersive gatherings where SOUP becomes both meal and medium. At her monthly Community Soup & Story Nights at The Pop Hop Books Co-op in Highland Park (and at pop-ups, workshops, and ritual events across Los Angeles) art, storytelling, and ceremony meet over a shared pot. Each gathering is built around a theme drawn from ancestry, mythology, archetype, or seasonal ritual, with original artworks, guided conversation, and a homemade soup made from scratch for that night.
